Still not quite to the level that Windows and Windows apps do, that is very true. We do see Ubuntu and other consumer-grade versions of Linux getting plumped up and using more and more RAM with each release.at least that's what I've noticed. If on a pc and there was a power cut, that ram data would be lost. Sleep shuts pc down to a low power state, keeping stuff in ram, This requires more power but is virtually instantaneous. ![]() Upon restart, hibrnation file data is copied back to ram. Unix/Linux is definitely more focused which allows it to be tighter on resources. Hibernate copies all off in ram to a hibernation file and pc shutsdown to a very low power state. c) Click on ‘System and Security’ and click on ‘Power’click on next to run the troubleshooter. b) In the search box, type ‘Troubleshooting’, and press enter. a) Press ‘Windows + W’ key on the keyboard. It is true with Windows but as Bill pointed out, the broader spectrum of Windows and what it does and supports kind of leads to this. Method 1: Let’s run the power troubleshooter and check if that helps. Here's a link I found useful on Windows OS Handles ID-ing and monitoring: Server OSes I can run substantially longer (years).which might be more fair to compare to Unix. But you're right, it is when not if you'll need to reboot on consumer OSes. Most times I'll go months in between reboots, other times I could go days. It is common to see over 100K in-use, but if I start to see more than 200K, I usually reboot. All actions on the computer are stopped, any open documents and applications are put in memory while the computer goes into a low-power state. ![]() ![]() Sleep mode is a power-saving state that is similar to pausing a DVD movie. Something to watch is how many handles the Windows OS has in use. Hibernate Sleep mode and hibernate accomplish similar things, but there are a few important differences.
